"Heaven" Is Closeness To God
The Bahá’í Writings affirm there is NO such physical place as Heaven but, instead, emphasize the eternal journey of the soul towards perfection. References to Heaven in all religions are merely to be understood symbolically. The soul’s journey toward perfection is only achieved through closeness to God. Bahá’ulláh, the Faith’s founder asked, “ ‘Where is Paradise, and where is Hell?’…The one is reunion with Me; the other is thine own self.” (Epistle to the Son of the Wolf).
Abdu’l-Baha once stated that “…when we become illuminated with the radiance of the sun of reality, and ennobled with all the virtues, [we] will esteem this the great reward, and [we] will know it to be the true paradise…Those who have passed through death have a sphere of their own. It is not removed from ours; but it is sanctified from what we call time and place.” (Abdu’l-Baha, speech in London).
